SEC on CBS Steals This Weekend’s Live Spotlight

It’s an entertaining weekend for live programming this week. Not only is it Sunday Night Football Extra‘s last scheduled live stream of the season, but Joel McHale is set to grace the wireless waves with his presence on Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show Sunday afternoon. What could be more entertaining than that? Oh, right… the SEC on Saturday!

SEC on CBS

It’s hard to believe, but the end of the college football regular season is fast approaching. With only a handful of games left before we hit the conference championship week, we’ll be into bowling season in no time. It seems like just yesterday that the preseason rankings were coming out, giving Florida and Texas legitimate chances at meeting in the National Championship (sorry guys, there’s always next year).

Speaking of bowling and championships, we embark upon Week 11 this Saturday and are presented with a very interesting match up in this week’s SEC on CBS game. Georgia faces #2 Auburn in a showdown that has quickly become much more than than your standard SEC game. Auburn’s chase for the BCS National Championship game has taken a wild turn thanks to Mississippi State and accusations that Cam Newton (Auburn’s Heisman candidate quarterback) was allegedly seeking up to $180,000 in order to be lured into making his college choice. While no suspensions have been handed down and both Newton and his parents deny all accusations, there’s no doubt that the scandal and the subsequent investigation by the NCAA have shaken up Auburn’s coaches and players. As of yesterday, there were rumors flying around that Newton would be suspended from tomorrow’s game, though Auburn Coach Gene Chizik has shot those rumors down.

What may be lost in all this mess is that Georgia is just one win away from bowl eligibility. Though the season has been another disappointment for Bulldog fans, at least a trip to a bowl game will help appease the fans as the team struggles to return to national prominence. Maybe with all this distraction around Auburn, Georgia can stage a huge upset and give themselves the push forward that they need.
