We know. Mondays suck. You don’t have to tell us twice, but when it comes to Web video a Monday feels less like a chore and more like a retreat; it’s when all of the weekend’s events get posted so you can catch-up on the fun stuff and avoid your workload all at the same time.
This Monday is no different. Here are the top three things to check out this evening:
The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards
We woke up with a lyrical hangover after last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, but you know what they say about hangovers; the best cure is more, more, more. Thankfully for you, the network posted the entire ceremony online this morning. The show kicks off with a performance by Eminem and Rihanna, includes Lady Gaga’s announcement re: her new album title, and finishes off with a live performance by Kanye West. Sound good? Great. Just make sure you bust out your Justin Bieber fan gear because he actually won something. Sweet mother of Bieber.
Once again, Amazon is blowing our minds with free content. The FX series premiered last Wednesday, but if you missed the pilot episode you now have a second shot. The show revolves around two unlicensed detectives hungry to take on cases for which they are clearly under qualified. It’s definitely worth checking out, mostly because by streaming Amazon’s free episode you’ll own it forever; so you can choose to watch it today or you can choose wait until it’s three seasons deep and you’re desperate to catch up, but today is probably the smarter move.
Mario and Luigi Turn Twenty-Five
But they don’t look a day over 40! Twenty-five years ago today, Nintendo released the Super Mario Bros. and left a mark on the gaming world that hasn’t gone away since. Today Nintendo released a 5 minute video showcasing the plumbers’ journey from their box art days of 1985 to the impressive graphics of the present. If these 5 minutes leave you wanting more, you should check out the children’s television series of the late 1980s, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Talk about nostalgia, the theme song boasts a killer 80s rap beat and most of the episodes are titled after popular movies of the era, like my personal favorite Princess, I Shrunk The Marios.
