Have you ever compiled a list of your favorite bands and imagined what it would be like if they played a massive concert together? Bands old and new sharing the stage for the greatest lineup of all time. It would be pretty sweet. Even sweeter? A lineup made entirely of fictional bands from TV shows. If you’re familiar with Zack Attack , Drive Shaft, or Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Without further ado, the dream lineup for Fake Bands From Television Fest 2010:
Indomitable Spirit – Mr. Show With Bob and David
Throughout its four seasons, Mr. Show created enough fictional bands to start a real record label. But the group once known as Flat-top Tony and the Purple Canoes outdid them all. With their message of hope, Indomitable Spirit would be a great opening act. A feel good group “that’s a little different from you and me, but let’s remember: that doesn’t make them freaks.” As long as their original, terrible drummer stays away from the proceedings, Indomitable Spirit will always put on a great show.
The Beets – Doug
Doug’s favorite band featured Monroe Yoder (bass, vocals), Wendy Nespot (keyboard), Flounder (guitar), and Clyde “Chap” Lipman (drums). An amalgamation of The Beatles, The Stones, and The Kinks, The Beets changed fictional rock music forever with their haunting single “Killer Tofu.”
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem – The Muppet Show
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem weren’t afraid to get heavy. Despite frequent line-up changes, the Dr. John inspired leader continued to explore the untapped sounds of Muppet Rock. The band’s secret weapon: Animal on drums.
The Five Aces – Saved by the Bell
Sure, Zack Attack may be the most popular fake Saved by the Bell group, but no one could lip sync along with doo wop quite like The Five Aces. Plus, mysterious character Tori Scott sings backup.
The Party Posse – The Simpsons
The Simpsons is another show with dozens of great, fake bands. But how many of them can match the all star lineup of Bart, Nelson Muntz, Ralph Wiggum, and Milhouse Van Houten? None of the other ones! Their biggest song, “Drop Da Bomb,” with a music video directed by Ang Lee, turned out to be subliminal advertising for the Navy. But with songs this catchy, who cares?
Jesse & The Rippers – Full House
If you’re going to close a fictional concert with a fictional band, you might as well go with the best. Throughout their storied career, Jesse & The Rippers were somewhat famous in Japan, played on Dancing With the Stars and continue to adorn all kinds of merchandise . Their greatest triumph might just be ‘Forever,’ a cover of the classic Dennis Wilson/Beach Boys song.
