The last typewriter factory has finally closed. The typewriter has been murdered.
The computer did it:
It’s okay, though. Just remember, the typewriter murdered penmanship in the late 1800′s. So, if you think of the computer as a Dexter type character of sorts, it all works out.
But typewriters were great: they made great sounds (my favorite was the “ding”); they made college students feel like beat poets; they made everything you typed feel way more important than it actually was.
But there’s no point in mourning the typewriter. It’ll be around for a long time. Just look at record players, analog cameras, and classic gaming systems. Nobody needs them anymore, but they are here to stay. They’re old, they’re cool, they impress women–okay, maybe not the gaming systems.
Plus, that factory was in Mumbai. Were you really going to go to Mumbai to buy a typewriter?
