The world was greeted by some particularly sad news today, as Harvey Pekar, graphic artist, comic book author, and the man behind the autobiographical series,
“American Splendor,” was found dead early this morning at his home in Ohio; he was 70 years old.
Pekar leaves behind an extensive legacy; his famous comic book series, “American Splendor,” not only reinforced the notion that graphic novels can make for riveting adult-content, but went on to inspire the 2003 film starring Paul Giamatti.
To pay our respects to the late Harvey Pekar, the Clicker homepage is currently hosting an episode from Charlie Rose entitled, “A Discussion About The Film American Splendor” wherein Pekar sits down with Charlie Rose, Paul Giamatti, Shari Springer Bergman, and others to discuss the film and to give insight into the historical nature of his original series. We encourage you to take a moment to get to know the man whose stories will live on long after his death.
